Two people are dead after a tractor-trailer crashed through a median and hit two vehicles on the Maine Turnpike in Ogunquit.
Xiaoying Ma, 35, of New York City was driving a tractor-trailer north on Interstate 95, near mile marker 14, about 6:05 a.m. when he lost control and crashed through the median guardrail onto the southbound side of the highway, where he crashed into two vehicles, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Ma first hit a Cadillac sedan driven by 64-year-old Linda Huelsman of Kennebunk and then a Mack box truck driven by 55-year-old Brian Ellis of Kittery, Moss said.
Huelsman died at the scene, while Ellis was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Ma was taken to York Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
The tractor-trailer was owned by EW Logistics of Hauppage, New York, and the box truck was owned by EAN Holdings of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Moss said that weather is believed to be a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation, and the York County district attorney’s office will review the investigation to determine whether any criminal charges will be filed.
