Bangor police on Monday arrested Lawrence Cyr, 48, of Bangor on multiple charges stemming from a shoplifting report at a local Walmart.

The Walmart Supercenter on Stillwater Avenue contacted police about a shoplifter at about 9:30 a.m., Bangor Police Sgt. Jason McAmbley said. When confronted by staff at the store, the suspect allegedly fled.

Bangor, Maine State Police with a police dog and the Maine Warden Service descended on the area, and after several sightings Cyr was found and arrested near Oriental Jade restaurant, McAmbley said. The restaurant is about 1.3 miles south of Walmart.

Police did not immediately say what Cyr allegedly stole from Walmart.

Cyr was treated for cuts and scratches from running through wooded areas and was brought to Penobscot County Jail and charged with theft by unauthorized taking, violating conditions of release, and probation violation.

Cyr was also wanted on an outstanding felony warrant for probation violations for previous convictions, McAmbley said.
