A California woman fell asleep at the wheel Wednesday night before crashing into a Maine state trooper on Interstate 95.
Keishaunna Tavares, 34, of San Diego was driving a 2019 Kia Optima north on I-95 in Sidney about 11 p.m. when she apparently fell asleep and hit the accelerator, causing her to speed uncontrollably, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Tavares then rear-ended a cruiser driven by Cpl. Garret Booth, Moss said Thursday afternoon,
Booth was taken to Maine General Medical Center in Augusta, where he was treated for an arm injury.
Tavares wasn’t injured.
She was cited for failing to maintain control of her vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation.
