A car destroyed the wall of a building in downtown Bar Harbor Tuesday morning when it crashed into the side of Melt, a takeout restaurant on Main Street.
There were no reported injuries due to the collision, according to the Bar Harbor Police Department.
The accident occurred around 9:45 a.m. when a teenage driver was trying to back out of a parking space but accidentally drove forward into the building, police said. The car, a 2023 Hyundai, “suffered functional damage and the building suffered substantial damage,” police wrote in an accident report.
The restaurant was unoccupied at the time, police said. The driver is not expected to face charges.
Melt, a seasonal business, has been open Wednesdays through Saturdays since early May, according to its website and Instagram feed.
