WALPOLE — The University of Maine Darling Marine Center is launching its 2024 Summer Seminar Series — talks exploring the latest marine science research in the state — with the first talk scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 30 at Brooke Hall Conference Center.
The inaugural talk of the 2024 series will feature Pauline Dion, president and executive director of the Boothbay Sea & Science center. Dion, an advocate for responsible ocean stewardship and a proponent of equal and affordable access to the sea, will discuss how the Boothbay Sea and Science Center formed and share the journey the organization has been on since opening its doors in 2013.
Following Dion the DMC will host ten more speakers on Thursday evenings throughout the summer from various organizations, including the Lobster Institute, Ready Seafood, the Department of Marine Resources, Maine Sea Grant and Hurricane Island. Talks will also feature long-time friends and visiting researchers of the DMC.
Seminars are free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to stay for dinner following the talk, carefully catered by the DMC’s dedicated chefs.
