Historic potentially explosive grenade recovered from West Paris home

6 June 2024

A grenade that members of the Maine State Police Bomb Squad believed to still be capable of detonating was recovered from a West Paris home on Wednesday.

The unexploded MK2 “pineapple” grenade was reported to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, and the state police bomb squad arrived at the High Street residence at around 11:27 a.m.

X-ray technology determined that the grenade could still be capable of exploding, and was confiscated by the bomb squad. The state bomb squad plans to safely detonate the grenade to dispose of it.

The family that reported the grenade told officials they believed it to have belonged to a family member who served during World War II or the Korean War.

There is no danger to the public at this time.
