Man seriously injured in Maine crash

1 July 2024

A Westbrook man was seriously injured in a Sunday night crash in Standish.

Andrew Leeman, 32, had left Acres of Wildlife and was speeding on Pequawket Trail about 11:52 p.m. when he tried to pass another vehicle at a sharp turn in the road, causing him to leave the road and strike two large rocks before coming to a rest, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The impact of the crash threw the rocks from their original locations, the sheriff’s office said Monday morning.

The crash left Leeman trapped in his 2015 Ford Taurus, and firefighters had to stabilize the heavily damaged vehicle so they could free him.

Leeman was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was treated for serious injuries not considered life-threatening.

Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
