The city of Old Town has appointed David White as police chief.
White, who will start on Aug. 1, previously served for 27 years in the Hanover Township Police Department, headquartered in Whippany, New Jersey, policing a population of roughly 14,000 people.
The Old Town Police Department had been without a leader since Scott Wilcox stepped down in December 2023 to take a position as CEO of the Old Town Orono YMCA. Wilcox had been the city’s public safety director, leading the police and fire departments. When the town was unable to find a replacement, they created separate fire and police chief positions.
Bill Mayo, city manager of Old Town, welcomed White in a news release, saying his “vision for modern policing and community engagement aligns perfectly with our goals for the future of Old Town. We believe his leadership will be instrumental in the continued safety and security of our residents.”
In a statement, White said: “I am honored to be joining the City of Old Town and to lead such a dedicated group of officers. I look forward to working closely with the community to build on the strong foundation already in place and to foster an environment of trust and collaboration.”
