Graham Lacher disappeared on June 6, 2022, after bolting from the Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center in Bangor.

In the two years since, Tammy Lacher Scully has documented every development in the search for her son, with near-daily entries. The timeline below is a window into the search for Graham.

June 6, 2022

Graham Lacher goes missing

Graham Lacher leaves Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center at 4:40 p.m.

Bangor police conduct 2-hour search of the area

Lacher is seen on camera at 6 p.m. in the woods behind DDPC.

The Bangor Police Department declares a missing person case at 8:30 p.m.

Silver Alert issued at 10 p.m.

June 7, 2022

Down East Emergency Medicine Institute initiates search effort first in Orono, then Bangor

Bangor Police Det. Jordan Perry assigned to Lacher’s case

State agencies start searching

The Bangor Police Department, Penobscot County Sheriffs Office, the Maine Warden Service and Border Protection conduct foot, drone and helicopter searches

June 18, 2024

Bangor Police Department and Brewer Police Department collaboration

Bangor police agree to work with Brewer police to review surveillance footage of the Brewer Riverwalk cameras. No leads discovered.

The Bangor police respond to a reported sighting of Lacher near Gilman Road. A K9 tracks the scent to Essex Woods. No further leads discovered.

Additional sighting reports

Secondary detective on the case Det. Tom Valente informs Lacher’s family of eight reported sightings, which did not result in any new leads. Local hospitals are checked for “John Does.”

Bangor Police Department issues press release asking for the public’s help locating Lacher

June 29, 2022

Waldo County Sheriff’s Office investigates two reported sightings

No further leads discovered.

July 6, 2022

Bangor Police Department takes back seat in Lacher investigation

Search and investigation resources are pulled, although police will follow up on reported sightings

July 7, 2022

Bangor Police Department releases surveillance photo of Lacher before he left Dorothea Dix on June 6

July 8, 2022

Family of Lacher conducts search of Essex Woods, reportedly find hidden “snack area,” along with a book.

A DEEMI K9 was unable to track Lacher’s scent in the area. No further leads discovered.

July 19, 2022

Maine State Police report possible sighting near Dick’s Sporting Goods in Bangor.

Search of the area includes a Bangor police K9, Bangor detectives, Maine State Police troopers and DEEMI volunteers. No further leads discovered.

Bangor police reportedly did not consider the clothing item as evidence, and it was returned to Tammy Lacher Scully

Sept. 29, 2022

Reward increases to $2,500

Lacher’s family issues a press release with an increase in the reward, as well as an appeal to hunters to keep an eye out for the missing man. Flyers are posted at more than 200 tagging stations across the state.

Oct. 20, 2022

Announcement of informational rallies in Bangor, Augusta and Portland

Lacher’s family provided hats, magnets and flyers are provided to attending members.
